Black Lab in need of a home - Roanoke, VA

Update: Good News
This little guy found a great home!
we usually don't go by
Black Dog Salvage
literally...

but have been known to
have a black dog dropped off
a time or two

i just received this message
from a friend here in Roanoke, VA

if you are looking for a loveable pup,
give us a call & we'll put you in touch.

Hello Family and Friends,

I'm writing to ask that you pass this on to all friends/ family that may be interested- or, if you are interested please let me know. A little over 3 weeks ago I found a stray male black lab approximately 1-2 years that is fixed and EXTREMELY sweet and loving calm for a lab doesn't jump- appeared to be well taken care of and has good manners and loves attention. After keeping him over night (he slept on my shoulder) awwwww..... I turned him into Animal rescue and also placed an ad in The Roanoke Times for him in hopes that his owners would find him. Sadly, nobody called on him and he has been at the rescue for 3 weeks. He has been evaluated and given shots and due to the shelter being full he would've been euphemized
today- I couldn't let this happen so I am getting him tomorrow and trying to find him his forever home. For those of you who know my Jager (my black lab/boxer mix) he is the same size as Jager and they could be twins. :-))) While I would LOVE nothing more than to keep
him I can't have 3 dogs --- for financial reasons and my Jagerdog doesn't take well to new attention in the home. I will be fostering him in hopes that he can find his forever home!!!!
Can you help?????

Antique Wrought Iron - Driveway Gates, Garden Gates, Wine Cellar Doors

A few years back,
we received over 200 TONS of
Antique Wrought Iron
salvaged from Egypt

Nine flatbeds total.
Between 100 - 200 years old,
this iron is very high quality -
hot banded & rivited -
sure to last at least another 100 years.

We still have many styles & sizes available
with an onsite metal shop ready to
take on any project.
In honor of Spring,
I thought I'd share some of our
favorite antique wrought iron projects.
See this earlier blog for the 'before'
pictures of the iron shown above.

The iron gates above were
fabricated for the wine cellar at
This was originally 2 panels and an arched transom.
Our craftsman combined them into
a seamless pair of double gates.

This balcony was made from a salvaged
balcony rail and framed with new iron.

Stunning gates & side panels.

The next few pictures show
incorporated into railings
at Deepak Chopra's
Center for Living.

This one is harder to see...
large 6' x 6' panels were used
to create this backdrop in the garden
And a simply elegant balcony rail
designed for a client in Washington, DC.
We currently have a number of iron panels
listed in our Ebay Store here and here.
If you have a particular size or project
your working on, please give us a call.
We'd be happy to take a look in the yard
and send pictures & additional information.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Pictures from the Designers' Showhouse in Blacksburg VA

Last night was the opening reception
of the Designers' Showhouse
to benefit the Lunch Pail Scholarship Fund
for more information,

Mike (co-owner of Black Dog)
& Susie Whiteside (Whiteside Designs) teamed
up to design a few areas of the house.

The front porch has a custom bench,
built here in our shop,
matching plant stands,
and a driftwood ball.

St. Francis of Assisi makes for a
welcome entrance.
This is one of many reproduction
garden statuaries available here
at Black Dog. To see an online
catalog, click here.
They are made in North Carolina
and are very high quality
quartz sand cast concrete, made from
molds of antique statuary.

To the right of the front door,
this console table greets you.
Note the framed antique ceiling tin
above. And... it wouldn't be complete in
Hokie Country without a gobbler!

This little nook features a custom
bench fabricated from antique wrought iron.

These benches offer great storage
for entry ways or mudrooms.

Here's Susie!
Susie was given the task of
designing the dining room,
which was a true artistic collaboration
and captured a fun, energetic spirit!

Antique stained glass windows
salvaged from a church adorn the windows
and tie together the vibrant colors.
An antique sette offers bench seating

This custom mirror w/ a copper patina
was built by our friend John Davis.
Sidenote: he also designs super cool teardrop trailers
which we'll blog more about later.

Gill Pollard's Hay Bales
offer the perfect touch.
Note the custom wine rack in the corner,
fabricated here in our shop.

I left the best for last... my absolute favorite detail!
This light fixture was fabricated here in the
shop and covered with a fun and fanciful fabric.
All the items in the showhouse are
available for sale. For more information
about the showhouse click here.
